Picture driving an autonomous vehicle down the road when an object jumps out in front of it. Is it a tiny squirrel or a lumbering moose? How should your vehicle react? Through the work of Mighty AI, automotive manufacturers and suppliers are helping sensors in their autonomous vehicles better understand the environment around them – and to keep the driver and vehicle safe because of it.

The Seattle-based business describes itself as a “training data as a service” company, which means it analyzes the images an autonomous vehicle picks up, identifies what is in the image and labels the important parts such as stop signs, moving objects, as well as road and lane markings.

Mighty AI, in conjunction with a team of trained labelers across the globe, put together this training data for OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers, getting the data back to customers quickly and accurately, says John Chalovich, Mighty AI’s marketing events manager. The result is computer vision models that help autonomous vehicles see the world completely, making perception sensors do exactly what their name implies.

Coming to Detroit and working with Michigan companies to create what Chalovich calls “ground truth” is exciting, and having a presence at the North American International Auto Show with its customers gives Mighty AI further insights on how to make autonomous vehicles a safe and secure option.
