Techstars DetroitMaximum Mentorship

Techstars, the internationally known startup accelerator and mentorship program, added a Mobility program exclusive to Detroit in 2015 under the director of longtime tech investor Ted Serbinski. Techstars Detroit invests in startups that are building technologies and business models that affect how people and goods move across all types of transportation. The Mobility program focuses on four primary themes: Autonomous, connected, shared and electric. Its goal is to touch on a variety of industries, including automotive, trucking, transportation, smart city, logistics, supply chain, energy and travel.

Techstars Detroit has brought startups from around the world to Detroit, where the program is based. Typically, the program invests about $120,000 in anywhere from 10 to 12 startups that live and work in the Motor City. To date, the program has invested in 22 startups that have raised $19 million in investment and are now valued at more than $100 million. As a result, Techstars Mobility is the No. 1 startup program in the mobility and automotive industry.

The program is seeking additional corporate partners to join its crew, which has included luminaries such as Ford Motor Company, Magna, Dana, Honda, Bosch, Jaguar Land Rover, Verizon and McDonald’s. Two of its investments have settled in Detroit, including Lunar and SPLT. Techstars Detroit is recruiting for its next startup round, and it seeks a variety of mentors and investors to work with its participants during the 90-day hands-on program.
